- Best time to travel
The best time to visit Egypt’s sites (Cairo, red Sea Resort and Nile Cities) is from February to April and again between October and November. During these months, the sky and seas are perfectly blue.
Wintertime temperatures (December to February) are mild and can be overcast. Note that December is peak season and rates are calculated accordingly - Egypt Culture and Greetings

There is a wide variety of offerings available ranging from the cheap food carts and street food that serve Egypt’s working class to fancy restaurants that cater solely to tourists and the upper class. Tea (shai) is the national drink of Egypt. Invitations to sit and drink tea together are an important part of the culture. Egyptians generally drink tea sweetened with a large amount of sugar. Alcohol is not widely consumed because of Islamic rules. Beer is popular and readily available in the larger cities. Buy your duty-free alcohol before entering the country. - City Travel
Government-owned Transport Authority run buses and tram services in Cairo (Very crowded). Private companies run buses and fixed taxi routes. The easiest way to get around Cairo is by Metro. Most used transport mode is taxis. Fix the rate before you start your journey. A comprehensive rail network runs through the country. Serving the Nile cities are various AC day and night trains with sleeping and restaurant cars serving Luxor and Aswan (Sleeper trains must be booked well in advance) - Tipping
Also known as Backsheesh will be requested from you by “everyone”. Change your money into Egyptian Pounds for tips to porters, waiters, room staff and drivers. Official Guides are tipped in foreign currency. Remember that the tips supplement the income of low Egyptian wages paid. - Local interesting meals:
Ful Mudamas: broad beans in sauce
Koshari: lentils, macaroni, rice and chickpeas
Mahshi: stuffed grapevine leaves
Fiteer Baladi: known as Egyptian pizza, fiteer is buttery and full of artery-clogging goodness
Falafel (Tameya): a deep-fried mixture of herbs and beans is a favorite, especially among vegetarians
Kofta: minced beef or lamb with spices, rolled onto a skewer and barbecued over coals
Sharm El Sheikh
Located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Sharm el-Sheikh is the most popular tourist center in Egypt. Meaning “Bay of the Sheikh” in Arabic. This small fishing town has turned into a city interspersed with luxury hotels and holiday resorts in the past 35 years. What has made Sharm el-Sheikh a trendy vacation spot is its accommodation alternatives that appeal to all budgets. Its rich underwater life, vibrant nightlife, the colorful traces of the Bedouin culture and streets filled with handcrafted objects will make your holiday.
Though Sharm el-Sheikh offers memorable diving options for those who are interested, the non-diving visitors can also have once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Dinner in the desert with the Bedouins. Watching the heavenly map of tens of thousands of stars in the pitch-black darkness. Sharm el-Sheikh feels as if a treasure chest has burst open and scattered all around the sea and sky. The underwater world and the desert sky – doesn’t that sound appealing?
If you’re a fan of the sea and a diving enthusiast, Sharm is just the place for you. Even if you don’t know how to dive, you can sunbathe on the golden-sand beaches and still be able to see almost half of what drivers' experience with a mask and a snorkel.
Diving in Sharm el Sheikh
If you prefer to stay at a hotel and go diving, you can. The daily diving boats taking off from the harbor are the best option. However, if you’d like to go deep into the underwater realm of the Red Sea, then take a week-long diving tour. On the diving tour, you stay on a diving boat. It’s the only way you can fully appreciate Ras Mohammed National Park.
Located about 20 kilometers south of Sharm el-Sheikh and the world’s largest underwater national park. Do not leave Ras Mohammed without going night diving. Squid, needlefish, red Spanish dancers (a kind of slug), night-hunting lionfish and Mediterranean moray attracted by the boat’s lights, will accompany you.
Accessible only by boat, Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef will mesmerize you with their schools of fish chasing their prey and their healthy corals. Anemone City is a diving spot home to hundreds of anemones, or more commonly known as clownfish. You’ll see the masked butterflyfish, endemic to the Red Sea, in pairs. The spots around their eyes work as a natural shield that scares the other fish away by making them look larger.
Shipwreck Diving
This is also the right place if you’re interested in shipwreck diving. The SS Thistlegorm shipwreck, which I think offers the world’s most beautiful wreck diving experience, lies here. A transport vessel built to carry supplies to the British troops during World War II. This 126.5-meter-long navy ship made its first and only journey to Egypt. It sunk because of German bombardment whilst docked at the straights of Gubal. Steam locomotives, wagons, motorcycles, trucks, rifles, bullets and soldier’s shoes are only a few of the things you’ll see during the underwater tour. Bringing in more money than the Pyramids in Egypt, this shipwreck will offer you unforgettable images and memories. I’m sure you’ll want to dive here again and again.
The Straits of Tiran and Tiran Island are prominent diving spots in Sharm el-Sheikh. Named after the scientists who discovered them (Gordon, Thomas, Woodhouse, and Jackson). These reefs are home to colorful and healthy coral formations. Don’t mind the waves, just dive in. They carry planktons that feed the fish, and you’ll have a lively diving experience surrounded by all kinds of underwater species.
